Alexei Navalny urged to end hunger strike immediately

Doctors of jailed Russian opposition leader, Alexei Navalny, warn that if he continues his hunger strike, he could die soon. The prostest has been ongoing for the last 20 days. The doctors, who had treated Navalny before his sentence, base their conclusion on medical tests conducted on the 20th of April. They suggest his kidney and nervous system problems could render even one more day of protest lethal. In an Instagram post, he has described his condition as "a skeleton staggering around his cell". The politician's supporters have rallied all over the country demanding him to be freed, almost 1000 people were arrested. Navalny was jailed in February for violating the terms of a 2014 suspended sentence for fraud, which thinks it is politically motivated

The situation surrounding Navalny's sentence is looking increasingly serious every day and I am curious to see what the Kremlin's decision regarding Navalny will be.

  1. Putin has shown many times that murdering political opponents is very much in his playbook. Here, though, I think they want to get rid of Navalny (which they hoped they had done when he was taken to Germany after being poisoned) but not by letting him die in prison with the whole world observing and commenting on it. This wouldn't give them a shred of deniability.
