China approves plan to control Hong-Kong elections
On Thursday, during the National People's Congress, the "patriots governing control" act was passed. The resolution will reduce democratic representation by allowing the Chinese government to force their own candidates into the city's Legislative Council which is elected by citizens. Last week vice- chairman Wang Chen announced that changes were needed as last year's protests and riots have proven the system flawed. Beijing said the law would target "sedition" and bring stability. The resolution was passed with 2895 votes for, zero votes against, and one abstention. More detailed legislation will now be drafted and could be enacted in Hong-Kong in the upcoming months.
I think this resolution is another big leap in China's involvement in Hong-Kong, which may lead to the city eventually being completely merged with The Middle Kingdom.

I wonder who the only brave abstaining MP was. And if they are still an MP.
