Senate carries on with Trump impeachment trial
In January Donald Trump was impeached for the second time for inciting an insurrection. The US Senate concluded today, that his impeachment trial is constitutional, despite opposition from the former president's defense team. The vote ratio for continuing the trial was 56 to 44, which means all democrats and 6 republicans supported the impeachment process. A two-thirds majority is required to convict an impeached president which is unlikely to happen considering most Republicans still back Trump up. If convicted he would be banned from taking part in future elections and exempt from receiving his privileges such as secret service protection and pension.
